Crafting Cohesion: How Architecture Informs Interior Design at Ceci Bates

In the realm of custom home building, interior design often enters the scene after the architecture is finalized. Architects craft the fundamental spaces, while designers later select finishes for environments they did not influence. This traditional sequence can lead to homes where architectural vision and interior design feel disconnected, like two conversations left unfinished.

At Ceci Bates Custom Homes, we believe in aligning these elements from the very outset. Our interior designer, Heather Shields, plays a pivotal role in ensuring that every detail of a home is cohesive. Before meeting clients, she collaborates closely with Roberth Jordan, our architect. Roberth’s designs are never arbitrary; each window placement and room orientation is meticulously considered to enhance the experience of living in the home. He crafts more than just walls and spaces—he tells a story through architecture.

Heather prepares by immersing herself in this narrative. She has often remarked that her role is to “put the fluff on Roberth’s artwork.” This phrase captures her mission to complement the architecture with finishes that enhance rather than detract. Armed with insights from their collaboration, Heather can curate initial selections of flooring, tiles, and other materials that naturally fit the home’s character, creating a seamless dialogue between structure and style before the client even arrives to begin their own selection process.

The most effective interior design finishes what architecture began. It respects the initial vision, ensuring each element feels intended and unified. We invite those interested to learn more about how our team of specialists collaborates throughout the building process at cecibates.com.
