Beyond Per-Square-Foot: The Ceci Bates Estimation Approach

In the world of custom home building, it is common to see estimates calculated on a per-square-foot basis. Builders often extrapolate costs from historical data, applying a price-per-square-foot that worked for past projects to a new endeavor. This approach relies on a general assumption, providing a starting figure that is rarely aligned with the nuanced realities of a specific home.

This per-square-foot method persists because it is expedient. Most builders lack detailed data, not having engineered the home meticulously or counted every material.
