Notes From Our Journey

From twenty-six years of building custom homes on Lake Texoma, here we share about our process and what we've learned about design, materials, engineering, and the decisions that shape a home built to last for generations — the questions clients ask us most often, and the answers we give around the table in our design center.

Understanding the Custom Home Timeline with Ceci Bates

October 22, 2026

In the initial conversation with potential clients, one question consistently arises: “How long will it take to build my custom home?” While many builders offer vague answers to shield themselves from future accountability, Ceci Bates Custom Homes sees transparency as a cornerstone of trust.

Our approach to timelines is grounded in a phased methodology, with each stage receiving the attention and time it truly requires. The first phase is conversation and design. Here, our architect meticulously studies the building site, develops initial concepts, and refines designs using advanced 3D modeling. This phase also involves early collaboration with our interior designer, ensuring that material selections are well-integrated into the overall vision of the home. Our commitment to detail means this phase is thorough and deliberate, extending longer than the industry standard because much of the critical groundwork is completed upfront.

The second phase focuses on engineering, takeoff, and procurement. During this stage, structural plans are finalized, materials are methodically quantified, and budgets are validated for accuracy. Contracts are signed only when these details are precise. On the contract signing day, purchase orders are issued, securing around seventy percent of the necessary materials before construction kicks off. This comprehensive preparation mitigates supply chain surprises and reinforces predictability in our process.

The third phase, construction, benefits directly from our rigorous preparatory work. By eliminating common impediments earlier, construction progresses more efficiently—even on complex projects. While the total timeline from initial conversation to completion varies with each project’s size and complexity, our disciplined approach ensures that the timeline is reliable rather than optimistic.

An honest timeline is born from an honest process. We invite you to learn more about how Ceci Bates approaches custom home building at cecibates.com.
