Notes From Our Journey

From twenty-six years of building custom homes on Lake Texoma, here we share about our process and what we've learned about design, materials, engineering, and the decisions that shape a home built to last for generations — the questions clients ask us most often, and the answers we give around the table in our design center.

Understanding Roberth Jordan’s Design Process

May 13, 2026

The design of a custom home is often seen as a single sweeping act of creativity. Yet, in practice, it unfolds through a series of structured phases, each with its own focus and unique form of client interaction. At Ceci Bates, this process is expertly navigated by Roberth Jordan, whose architectural talent is both broad and nuanced.

The journey begins with the concept phase, where Roberth’s thoughtful analysis shapes the foundational ideas of the home. Every detail is considered—from the orientation of the lot to how the natural light moves through the space across different times of the year. Initial sketches are rendered by hand, mapping views and conceptualizing the core layout. This stage invites an ongoing dialogue with the client, offering an early glimpse into the possibilities and allowing for initial feedback.

Once the concept has reached a satisfactory point, Roberth transitions to the modeling phase. Here, the abstract sketches are transformed into a full 3D model using ArchiCAD. This virtual construction includes real materials, accurate lighting schemes, and detailed finishes, providing an immersive experience. Clients are able to walk through their future home, noticing architectural nuances that aren’t visible in flat drawings. Feedback in this phase refines details, ensuring the design aligns with the client’s vision.

The final drafting phase is where technical precision takes center stage. This includes developing comprehensive construction documents, detailed elevations for every room, cabinetry specifications, foundation plans, and all necessary electrical layouts. Though changes at this stage tend to be smaller, client input remains crucial to ensure every detail aligns perfectly with the intended design. Only when total agreement is reached between the client and Roberth does the phase conclude.

At Ceci Bates, this methodical approach to design results in homes that truly reflect the client’s vision, shaped thoughtfully at every step. We invite those interested to learn more about our design philosophy at cecibates.com.
